the MISSION
Reinvention Space was established in 2018 by Jennifer Slawson in the Seattle, Washington area to coach entrepreneurs and non-profit innovators to create the change they want to see in the world. Two years after the global pandemic started, the founder made a decision to leave Corporate America after two decades primarily in the tech industry and become a clinical mental health counselor to help individual adults, adolescents, and couples reduce their suffering and find healing.
MY STORY
Since 2003, I evaluated thousands of ideas for small, mid-sized and large non-profits and corporations. I developed and launched new products, programs, services, channels, events, revenue streams, and teams across industries, customer segments, and countries. I have led strategic offsites, creative workshops, and planning sessions to generate and prioritize new ideas, increase ownership and confidence, build high performing teams, and drive impact.
I am also no stranger to reinvention. I joined the counseling profession after earning my MBA and working in Corporate America for two decades primarily in the tech industry. Before becoming a counselor, I became a trained and credentialed coach to support career, work, and life topics. The surge in mental health care needs during the pandemic inspired the shift as I had more to offer to help reduce global and individual suffering. Throughout my own career and life journey, I experienced a range of life-changing transitions that led to a passionate pursuit of instilling hope in others.
My approach
My counseling approach leverages a psychodynamic foundation that considers clients’ self-concept, ego functioning, defenses, and relational patterns informed by early attachment that can be adapted through therapeutic work. I also support clients’ existential considerations where a shift in the balance between personal freedom and responsibility may be sought. DBT interventions may be offered to improve skills with emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. I am especially passionate about serving those who have experienced grief, loss, trauma, intimate partner conflict and violence, and major life, identity, and relationship transitions, such as considering new career paths, experiencing work and life as an expat, becoming a new parent or caregiver, adjusting to life after divorce and coparenting, and navigating the aging process.
In my therapeutic work, I aim to create a safe space for reflection, exploration, learning, experimentation, and growth. I blend my business and counseling knowledge, skills, and experience to facilitate awareness and insight for clients while supporting their development of practical and actionable skills, tools, and support for growth and transformation. Clients have autonomy over their own care, and they are viewed as the experts and authors of their lives. Big thoughts, emotions, and humor are welcome!
